Windsor House
Spittal St - Dean St corner Through the Ages
(this display has now been removed)
Many of you will have seen the white boarding that was placed in front of Windsor House, at the junction of Dean St and Spittal St, as a first step before the demolition of the building. Our Society was recently approached by Sorbon Estates Ltd with a view to creating illustrative vinyl covers as was previously done in the High St on the shopfront of the former Clarks Shoe shop.
Michael Eagleton joined in a collaborative enterprise and Janet Smith provided background details. At 1600h on 22 Dec 15 we had agreed the format and 24 hours later the first of the vinyls were in place. They immediately attracted attention. Do go and see this montage of historic pictures from Michael Eagleton's and Ray Evans' collections in the very location at which they were originally taken.
In these pictures you can see Vienna Carter of Sorbon and our Stalwart Michael together and a small part of the overall montage.
