Pocket borough - a parliamentary constituency where most of the rentable property is owned by one family, who use it to bribe their tenants to vote for them.
How did Marlow become a Pocket borough? For over two hundred years poor Marlovians were manipulated and threatened into voting against their own interests. It led to violence, rioting, and the stagnation of the town.
